(WPVI/KHLN/CNN) – In Texas, a federal judge has struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

The court ruled the ban has no "rational relation to a legitimate government purpose."

The decision is the latest in a series of federal and state courts overturning laws forbidding same-sex marriage.

The practice is now legal in 17 states and the District of Columbia.
