LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A 25-year-old Nacogdoches woman accepted a plea bargain sentence of five years of probation Thursday for stealing from a local store, fled from its management, and carried/dragged two small children across Atkinson Drive in front of an ongoing 18-wheeler.
Ebony Denise Colston appeared in Judge Paul White's 159 Judicial District Court Thursday. As part of the plea bargain deal, she pleaded guilty to three felony charges of child endangerment.
The theft and child endangerment occurred in August 2013. According to the arrest affidavit, Colston had "custody, care, or control" of two girls, ages 7 and 2, and a baby boy, age 6 months, when the incident occurred.
According to the affidavit, Colston was fleeing a store's management after she allegedly stole some merchandise from the business. She carried the 6-month-old baby and dragged the 2-year-old girl as she ran across Atkinson Drive in front of an 18-wheeler. The 7-year-old crossed the road with them.
"Colston further abandoned [the 7-year-old] by having her run home while she hid from police in some bushes with the baby and [the 2-year-old]," the affidavit stated.
Colston was found in the 500 block of Hemlock Street.
