UNO: 28 staff positions to be eliminated

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - University of New Orleans President Peter Fos announced that 28 occupied staff positions will be eliminated in order to help offset a budgetary deficit of approximately $6 million in the current fiscal year.

The staff reductions will result in a cost savings of more than $2 million. Money from university reserve funds will fill the rest of the budget gap, Fos said.

"Unfortunately we can't continue to operate the university at current staffing levels," Fos said.

"The goal in this difficult process was to preserve the academic and research core of the University, which are the central features of our mission as a research university. We remain committed to providing the best learning environment possible for our students."

According to Fos, the positions that were eliminated come from a number of different departments across the University. No faculty members or instructors were affected, nor were any personnel in the Earl K. Long Library.
