Tiny town outside Grand Canyon outlines its future

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AP) -

A tiny town that credits its existence to the Grand Canyon is outlining its 10-year future.

Tusayan's general plan is a wish list of sorts for recreation, public services, transportation and development. It's what the plan doesn't include that is drawing the criticism of neighbors -- a water source for growth.

The majority of that growth is tied to an Italian company's plan to build a dude ranch, high-end boutiques, five-star hotels, hundreds of homes and a high-density shopping area off the highway that leads to the Grand Canyon's South Rim.

The company, Stilo Development Group USA, says those plans won't come to full fruition for years or even decades.

Grand Canyon officials say the town's general plan should be a better reflection of reality if that's the case.
