AZ student wins national contest on underage drinking prevention

GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A 15-second Instagram video has won a Glendale teen a national award and $1,500.

The Power of You(th) Video Contest put on by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) asked teens around the country to create a 15-second Instagram video that answered the question, "If you don't drink alcohol today, what could your tomorrow be?"

MADD National President Jan Withers presented the award to Ironwood High School senior Keegan Carlson on Tuesday.

Carlson, 17, had a video that shows he can be anything he wants to be, if he chooses to stay away from alcohol. Click here to watch his video.

It's the third annual video contest that's part of MADD's Power of You(th) program to prevent underage drinking.

Withers' daughter was killed as a result of underage drinking.

According to MADD, teen alcohol use kills about 4,700 people each year, more than all other illegal drugs combined.
