Cattle take center stage Friday at Angelina Co. Youth Fair

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

There were some big competitions Friday at the Angelina County Youth Fair.

It was all about the Steer and Heifer shows.

The showmanship category was open to both Steers and Heifers and after some careful judging, Central's Dallas Williford brought home the coveted belt buckle and says she is now putting her focus on the Houston Livestock Show later in the month.

"I will work her every day," Williford said. "I will practice leading and make her more athletic."

Williford was a first time winner in the event and the Steer competition also saw a first time winner.

Brylee Skelton of Lufkin had previously shown goats but moved up to cattle this year and in her first show won the lightweight Steer division.

"I'm kind of shaking right now," Skelton said. "At first I thought I was going to get last place, because he pulled me out first."

The 2014 fair will wrap up Saturday with the TCCA Heifer show, bar-b-cue cook- off and animal auction.
