MILLER CO, AR (KSLA) -

A couple of fishermen have found a body in the Sulphur River between Fouke and Doddridge in Southwest Arkansas.

The discovery was made late Wednesday morning, not far from the Hwy 71 access on the Sulphur River just north of Doddridge.

Deputies with the Miller County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas Game & Fish are on the scene, along with Arkansas State Police and Texas Game & Fish.

The body is reportedly in an advanced stage of decomposition. Officials on the scene now say the remains have been pulled from the water and have been determined to be female.

They say this body is not believed to be that of Janice Burris Northcross, missing since February 8 when she either fell or was knocked off the I30 bridge over the Red River near Fulton, AR after icy conditions caused a wreck.

Miller County Chief Deputy Dewayne White says it's too early to say who it could be. "It is too premature, and I think we need to guard our answers now because it may give families false hope, and we certainly don't want to do that as an agency."

The Sulphur River flows southeast out of Lake Wright Patman, joining the Red River further to the southeast in Roane, AR.  That's about 4.5 miles directly east of Doddridge.
