Candidates preparing for runoff in Lubbock County JP 4

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock County is looking at a runoff election for Justice of the Peace in Precinct 4.

In the Republican primary, Ann-Marie Carruth received 38 percent of the vote, and Gary Vaughn was close behind with 37 percent.

Both candidates thanked their supporters on Wednesday, and say they'll now be busy rallying support for the runoff.

"This position is very important to me, working within the legal industry for the last seven years, I know how important it is to have someone educated and experienced in that industry to sit on the bench," Carruth said.

Gary Vaughn said, "Public service has been my whole adult life, and I just want to continue that public service in the JP court. I think the JP court is the people's court. I think they should be able to come in there, represent themselves, have their case heard, and have a fair judgement."

There is no Democratic candidate running for JP 4.
