Saints to release WR Lance Moore after nine seasons

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -  NFL sources confirm to FOX 8 that the New Orleans Saints will release wide-receiver Lance Moore after nine seasons.

Friday morning Saints wide receiver Lance Moore tweeted, "Thank you for an amazing nine years. Who Dat Nation, the best on Earth!!!!"

With his release, the Saints will save about $2.5 million.

The team is right up against the cap after placing the franchise tag on Jimmy Graham and tendering restricted free agent Rafael Bush.

Moore is a fan favorite, though his production slipped to just 37 catches and two touchdowns in 2013. He's just one year removed from a thousand yard season in 2012.

Moore was the final holdover from the Jim Haslett era.

He is the fifth key member of the Super Bowl team to either be cut or not be resigned this off season.

The Saints are now down to just eight players from that team and Zach Strief, Malcolm Jenkins, and Robert Meachem are all free agents. Pierre Thomas is reportedly on the trading block.
