NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches Police officers arrested a 40-year-old woman for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly hit her boyfriend in the back of the head during a heated argument.

Rosetta Howard, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. No bail has been set at this time.

According to the arrest affidavit, the Nacogdoches Police Department responded to an aggravated assault call at a residence 1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Monday. When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with Howard, who told them that her boyfriend had hit her during a verbal argument.

Howard told police that she hit her boyfriend back, causing him to fall down. According to the affidavit, she later said the man must have hit his head on a concrete brick when he fell down. She denied hitting the man with the brick.

At that point, the NPD officer talked to the boyfriend while he was being treated by EMS personnel for a large cut to the back of his head. The man had blood all over his head, shirt, and body, according to the affidavit.

The boyfriend told the police that Howard hit him in the head with the brick during the argument. He stated that when he started walking toward, Howard, she picked up a brick, according to the affidavit. At that point, the boyfriend started walking away from the woman, he told the officer.

According to the affidavit, that was when Howard allegedly hit him in the back of the head with the brick.

Officers located the blood-covered brick on First Street.

Howard was arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
