2-vehicle wreck involving 18-wheeler in Polk Co. sends 4 to hospital,

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Both southbound lanes of traffic were blocked for a short period of time as a result of a two-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler and another vehicle that occurred on U.S. Highway 59 south of Livingston Friday afternoon.

Two children were airlifted for treatment at Houston hospitals, and two adults were taken to Livingston's Memorial hospital. No information was available on their respective conditions.

According to Trooper David Hendry, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred when an 18-wheeler driven Timothy Cwick, of Houston, turned on his emergency flashers and attempted to turn right onto a private drive way.

A car drive by Heather Bradford allegedly tried to pass the 18-wheeler on the shoulder of the road and struck the front end of the tractor trailer rig.

Hendry said Cwick wasn't injured in the accident. Bradford and an adult passenger in the car were taken to Livingston's Memorial Hospital. Two children, ages 4 months and 10, were airlifted to Houston hospitals for treatment.
