WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found in Smith County off of Highway 110 on Monday afternoon.

Sheriff's officials say the body was found in a wooded area about 40 yards off the road just south of Loop 49 near Whitehouse next to Nipper's Quality Auto Works.

An employee from the auto shop was outside repairing the business's fence, near the woods, when they saw the body and called authorities.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith says the body, which is partially decomposed, is that of a white male.

"There has been a missing young man from the Whitehouse area, but it's way too early to speculate on whether it's him or not. We're not even going to go there until we get better information that we can really depend on to say it is or is not,' said Sheriff Smith.

The body is being sent off to Dallas for an autopsy.

"We should know more tomorrow or the next day, but at this time it's too premature to let out very much more information," said Smith.

Smith said authorities were unable to identify the body, nor would they speculate on the the person's identity. Smith added that there was no sign of foul play.

Autopsy results are expected to come back late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
