TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The United States Marshals say a man wanted for his ex-girlfriend's murder since October has been located and arrested.

Police say Marquis A. Walker, 29, shot and killed 23-year-old Jordan Jones at the Tamaron apartments on Alexis Road near Jackman Road around 10:30 p.m. on October 13, 2013.

The U.S. Marshals and the Jonesboro Police Department's SWAT team arrested Walker after an hour-long standoff at a home on Stone Street in Jonesboro Monday.

The Marshals say Walker barricaded himself inside the home and threatened to kill himself. He fired one shot accidentally when the SWAT team fired tear gas into the home, the Marshals say. No one was hurt during the standoff.

"Hats off to the U.S. Marshals and the Jonesboro Police Department. It was ultimately their SWAT team that went in and got this guy. He's a dangerous guy. He murdered a woman in cold blood. He had guns on him when the Jonesboro PD took him down. It could have turned out a lot worse than it did. They did a fantastic job and we're very thankful to them," said Toledo Police Sergeant Joe Heffernan.

Walker faced a judge in Arkansas Tuesday and waived extradition, meaning he will not fight being brought back to Toledo. Police say that will happen as soon as transportation is arraigned.

Family members and friends of Jones say their prayers have been answered.

"Today, as her father said, we can smile again because we know that the man who did this will not have the opportunity to do this to someone else's daughter," said family friend Blanco Romero.

Jones's father did not want to go on camera Tuesday, but did express his thanks to law enforcement for finding and arresting Walker.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
