CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Several homes on Cleveland's west side were briefly evacuated after a gas leak on Tuesday morning.

It happened around 9:45 a.m. in the 3700 block of West 37th Street.

Firefighters tell 19 Action News that vandals ransacked the vacant home, broke the gas pipe to the stove and caused the leak.

Dominion workers quickly shut off the leak and by 11 a.m. residents were allowed to return home.

An alert neighbor was the first to smell the gas and call for help.
