AMITE, LA (WVUE) -

A tip to Amite Police has led to the discovery of contraband apparently meant to be smuggled into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.

Amite Police Assistant Chief Michael Foster found two paper bags outside the back fence at the jail. Inside the bag, he found nine cell phones, batteries, marijuana, tobacco and more.

Chief Jerry Trabona told ActionNews17.com that he suspects the contraband was meant for inmates and could have been worth a lot of money inside the jail.

Trabona added that investigators know some of the phones were purchased at a Walmart in Hammond and Tangipahoa sheriff's deputies are looking for two persons of interest in the case.
