LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A group of furry friends surprised second graders at Trout Primary Friday afternoon.
The kids were so excited to see adoptable dogs and cats from the Winnie Berry Animal Shelter and got a crash course lesson on how to take care of an animal.
They learned how to feed and give pet's water, and the best way to pet him. The event was the kick off for an animal shelter project. For the next two weeks, kids will gather donations for the shelter.
"Animals, they need our help and anything we can do to help them, helps the community try to cut down on the overpopulation," said Breanna Noble, a second grade teacher.
Some of the animals at the event today are some of our BFF friends and are all ready to be adopted by a loving family.
