Nacogdoches chapter of SFA Alumni Association to host rally for Lumberjacks

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The Nacogdoches Chapter of the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association is hosting a rally for the Lumberjacks basketball team at the East Side Plaza of the SFA Student Center tonight at 6:30 p.m.

"Salute the Lumberjacks at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the east side plaza of the SFA student center, in front of the Spirit Lounge," stated the Alumni Association's Facebook status. "Let's rally around this amazing team and overwhelm them with great pride!!"

According to the status update, free parking will be available in the garage next to the SFA Student Center. Cake and ice cream will be served.

The SFA Lumberjacks' 29-game winning streak ended Sunday night, when they lost to 20th-ranked UCLA in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at the Viejas Arena in San Diego by a score of 77-60.

The loss to UCLA was the Lumberjacks' first defeat since Nov. 23, 2013.

On March 21, SFA pulled off a surprise upset victory against Virginia Commonwealth in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lumberjacks beat VCU by a score of 77-75 in overtime.

    More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
