San Augustine man allegedly set his estranged girlfriend's VW Beetle on fire

SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) -

San Augustine County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 41-year-old on an outstanding arson warrant Saturday in connection to a Jan. 26 incident in which he allegedly set fire to his girlfriend's 2002 Volkswagen Beetle, burning it to the ground.

Billy Ray Perry, of San Augustine, was arrested and charged with a state-jail felony charge of arson of a building, habitation, or vehicle, and a Class C misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. His posted a $25,000 bail and was released from the jail Sunday.

According to Chief Gary Cunningham of the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in Broaddus. Following an argument with his estranged girlfriend, Perry allegedly went outside and set fire to her VW Beetle, Cunningham.

Cunningham said Perry is scheduled to appear in front of a San Augustine grand jury Tuesday.
