NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Beginning in August, Southwest will offer a new twice daily flight to Washington's Reagan National Airport (DCA) from New Orleans.

Southwest is the busiest carrier flying out of the Kenner airport. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, "This announcement by Southwest is yet another example of the growing demand for service in the New Orleans region as we continue to build a world-class airport."

The addition of the Southwest flights gives customers will a choice when flying to DCA. US Airways already services New Orleans passengers heading to and from Reagan National Airport.

"This service to Washington National by Southwest will offer our community another option in reaching our nation's capital, whether for business or pleasure," said New Orleans Aviation Board Chairwoman Cheryl Teamer.

The new Southwest flights begin August 10, 2014.
