3 injured in Hammond car crash

HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) - An early morning car crash left three people injured, including an 11-year-old girl.

The Tangipahoa Sheriff's Department says it happened around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Old Covington and W. Pleasant Ridge Rd. in Hammond.

According to police, a 2009 Chevrolet pick-up truck being driven by 38-year-old Russell Ott with an 11-year-old female passenger was traveling south on W. Pleasant Ridge Road when he failed to yield at the intersection at Old Covington Highway.

As a result, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, occupied by 31-year-old Sharon Pitts, hit the driver's side of Ott's vehicle.

Russell Ott and Sharon Pitts were both extricated from their vehicles and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Ott's passenger was ejected from the Tahoe and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say driver impairment is not suspected at this time.

Ott was cited for failure to yield and for traveling with anunrestrained passenger.
