Houma Police: Arrest warrants issued for parents in fatal house fire

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- Detectives with the Houma Police Department have issued arrest warrants for the parents of the two children killed in a house fire on March 15, 2014. Romell Welsh Sr. And Vaneshia L. Valentine are both wanted for two counts of manslaughter. Police say that the children were home alone at the time of the fire.

The fire claimed the lives of two-year-old Romell Welsh Jr. and one-year-old Ro'Miya Welsh. The Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office determined that the children died as a result of smoke inhalation. Fire investigators say that the fire started in a garbage can in the kitchen. Articles of clothing that caught fire were extinguished and placed in the can. Officials want to question the parents about the clothing, once they are in police custody.

If you have any information that could help locate Romell Welsh Sr. and Vaneshia L. Valentine, you are asked to call the Houma Police Department or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
