Riverwalk prepares for May 22 unveiling

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Outlet Collection at the Riverwalk opens May 22, and the Howard Hughes Corporation has a week of activities planned for the unveiling of the 75-store mall. The facility has been under renovation for almost a year.

"Shoppers are going to see a completely re-imagined property - much lighter and brighter than it was before," said Riverwalk General Manager Frank Quinn.

Stores like Neiman Marcus, Kenneth Cole, Coach Men's Factory Store and Forever 21 are some of the anchors. Neiman Marcus has 16,000 square feet of space at the mall entrance.

The Outlet Collection is the first of it's kind in a downtown area, according to the Howard Hughes Corporation.

Poppy's Time Out Sports Bar and the Crazy Lobster next to the mall prepare for the crowds.

"We've been starting to staff up and get everybody trained and ready," said restaurant manager Teresa Anasagasti.

The new mall is 50,000 square feet larger than the old Riverwalk. The width has been increased on the river side and the city side.

A job fair is set for April 7 at the Convention Center to get workers to staff the new shopping destination. Howard Hughes Corporation promises more details in the coming days.
