LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - After a private citizen reported a suspicious person near a residence on Chestnut Drive Tuesday morning, Lufkin Police officers found the subject a short time later and discovered that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen.

A warrant check revealed that Jerrcorri Jeron Henry, 32, of DeSoto, also had two outstanding warrants for credit card/debit abuse.

Henry is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on state-jail felony charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two state-jail felony charges of credit or debit card abuse, and a Class A misdemeanor charge of burglary of a motor vehicle. His bail has been set at $1,500 for the burglary of a vehicle charge, but no bail has been set for the other charges.

According to a press release, a LPD officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Chestnut Drive in reference to call about suspicious activity in the area. The caller advised dispatch that he or she had seen a car parked next to a residence in the area.

When the caller approached the man near the car, he had a gas can with him and he told the person that he had run out of gas.

Because of recent burglaries in the area, the caller found the activity to be suspicious and called the police. When LPD officers arrived on the scene, the man and the car were gone.

Officers found the man in a parking lot of N. Raguet Street. They learned that the vehicle had been stolen, and a warrant search revealed Henry's two outstanding warrants for credit card or debit abuse.

"Officers noticed that there were numerous electronics and tools scattered throughout the vehicle," the press release stated. "As well, a passerby told officers that Henry was attempting to sell the items.  The items were collected and entered into evidence."

LPD detectives went through the items and compared them to things taken during a recent car burglary. At least five of the items were identified as items taken during a recent car burglary, the press release stated.

The case is still under investigation, and new charges could be pending.

According to the Angelina County Web site, Henry has a long list of arrests that dates back to 2000. His previous arrests include possession of a controlled substance, credit or debit card abuse, theft between $1,500 and $20,000, evading arrest, evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

"The recovery of this stolen vehicle and property was due largely in part to the call of a concerned citizen," the press release stated. "It is because a concerned citizen took the time to notify the police department that officers were able to conduct an investigation leading to the arrest of a wanted felon and the recovery of stolen property."

If citizens see suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, they are urged to call and make a report via the Lufkin Police Department's non-emergency number (936) 633-0356.
