LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Family Crisis Center of East Texas is looking for volunteer sexual assault advocates.
The center is looking for anyone who is willing and able to dedicate their time to help those victims of sexual assault, especially during their medical exams.
"We're looking for volunteers who are compassionate and caring, who can show compassion to the victims, as well, as to their families or other persons who may come with them just to kind of help through the process as they go through the medical exams," said Lissy Turner, a sexual assault services coordinator.
"That's when the volunteers will be needed to assist them in those and just make sure that you provide comfort and let them know that the agents will be here for them during and after their exams and make sure they know that they have plenty of options to have a survivor and not continue to be a victim."
Right now, they only need two more volunteers for their upcoming training session, but are really looking for people who can dedicate time.
"Just someone who's caring and compassionate who has time free on weekends or maybe on afternoon shifts who can do day shifts, as well. Just someone who has a flexible schedule and can really be compassionate and caring towards the victims," Turner said.
The upcoming training session will be on Friday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their Lufkin location. Anyone interested should contact Susan Robertson at (936) 639-1681.
