Angelina, Nacogdoches counties have increased in population since 2010

LUFKIN, TEXAS -

When the U.S. Census Bureau did its annual population and housing estimates for Texas' counties, the numbers revealed that Angelina and Nacogdoches counties both saw their populations increase slightly from 2010 to 2013.

Back in 2010, Angelina County had a population of 86,934. By 2013, that number had increased to 87,441. That represented at .58 percent increase. In addition, the 2013 number was down 39 from the 2012 total.

Nacogdoches County saw similar growth from 2010 to 2013. In 2010, the official population total for the county was 64,652. By 2013, that number had increased to 65,330, a 1.04 percent increase. Nacogdoches County's 2013 population total was down 478 from the previous year.

According to the census.gov Web site, the official census numbers are gathered every 10 years. On a national level, the census numbers determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives. Those numbers are also used to distribute billions of federal funds to local communities.

Here's an interesting bit of trivia. The smallest county in Texas, population-wise, is Loving County. In 2013, Loving County had a total population of 82 people.

Harris County, which includes Houston, boasted Texas' largest county population number in 2013 with 4.33 million people.

San Augustine County: 8,846 (2010), 8,873 (2011), 8,850 (2012), and 8,769 (2013)
