Life Cafe inside Lifetime Fitness fails health inspection

A metro Atlanta fitness center that promotes healthy living and calls themselves "The Healthy Way of Life Company" encountered a health issue at a cafe inside one of their gyms.

Life Cafe inside Lifetime Fitness at 1823 North Brown Rd. in Lawrenceville failed a surprise health inspection on March 26, 2014 with 46 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory.

Health inspectors cited an employee for not washing their hands before engaging in food prep. The report also says an employee opened a dented can of tuna. Plus, part of the cold top cooler and the meals to go cooler were not working properly. Several food items were at unsafe temperatures like salmon, tuna, mahi, pesto chicken, yogurt, eggs, cheese pizza, coleslaw, spinach and pulled pork.

CBS46 News contacted Lifetime about the violations. Lifetime sent CBS46 this statement:

"At Life Time, we have a well-established safety protocol and standard operating procedure for all of our LifeCafes and thus, the recent health inspection score was disappointing. These evaluations are something our team takes very seriously and immediately following the report, our team completed a walk through to address all issues with the major issues already corrected. We are committed to providing our members a safe experience throughout all areas of our clubs at all times."

Life Cafe received 93 points and an "A" on March 31, 2014 during a re-inspection.
