Shopper robbed at gunpoint in parking lot of Great Northern Mall

Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted
NORTH OLMSTED, OH (WOIO) -

An investigation is underway after a woman was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of Macy's at the Great Northern Mall.

It happened just after 8 p.m. on Thursday.

It only took moments for Great Northern Mall security to say hello to 19 Action News when our cameras rolled up in the mall's parking lot trying to show viewers at home where the April 3 armed robbery took place.

We want to catch the bad guys too.

Dispatch: "911.  What is your emergency?"

Caller, "North Olmsted. We have a women who a gun was held to in the parking lot right outside of Macy's and they stole her purse."

A 44-year-old woman parked in the lower parking lot of Macy's told police a masked man pulled out a silver handgun and got away with her purse. He then ran to the Macy's west parking lot and fled in a light colored or gray vehicle. 19 Action News has learned there was another person in the getaway vehicle.

The shopper wasn't injured.

Investigators are still going through the surveillance video. The robber ran up into the west parking lot and jumped into a waiting car which means the suspects could have been timing the rounds of mall security trucks that patrol the parking lot.

Dispatch,"Is the person with the gun still there?'

Caller, "No. They held a gun to her. Took her purse. Got in a vehicle and took off."

Security noticed our camera right away in the parking lot and  made it clear that 19 Action News is not welcome.

Mall security kicked 19 Action News out of Macy's parking lot.

Mall officials tell us that they are cooperating with the North Olmsted Police Department but at this point they don't have any other comments on the case.

The 44-year-old shopper was not injured during the armed robbery. Her purse was taken during the theft. Anyone with information is urged to contact North Olmsted Police at 440-777-3535.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
