LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A federal grand jury has tagged a Pollok man and Lufkin woman with new charges in connection to a meth bust during a traffic stop in October.

Amber Nicole Humphries, 31, and Stephen Michael Smith, 32, are now charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

The pair was arrested by DPS troopers on Oct. 27, when they were pulled over on US 59 for a traffic violation. The trooper reported Humphries was driving with an invalid license and placed her under arrest.

The trooper then reported seeing a clear plastic bag containing meth next to the passenger seat and arrested Smith.

A DPS Narcotics team then searched the vehicle and reported finding a plastic bottle under the passenger seat, which also had meth. They also reported finding counterfeit cash.

A total of 54.3 grams of meth was seized in the bust.

If convicted, the duo face between five and 40 years in federal prison.
