Former Hudson Hornet Brandon Belt hit his third home run in four games, becoming only the fourth Giant to do so, as his team beat Arizona, 8-5, Thursday in Phoenix.
According to the Giants' website, Barry Bonds (2002), Willie Mays (1962, 1964 and 1971), Kevin Mitchell (1991) and Belt have hit three home runs in the first four games of the season.
Belt's homer came in the first inning. Batting from the No. 3 spot in the lineup, Belt also grounded out in the third inning, popped out in the fifth, grounded out in the seventh and struck out in the ninth. He went 1-for-5 in the game, dropping his season batting average to .333.
Belt is now in a tie for the major league lead in home runs with Alejandro de Aza of the Chicago White Sox.
The Giants open a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at 8:15 p.m. on Friday.
