CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) -

A Corrigan man is behind bars after he allegedly choked a 14 year-old girl.

Billy Joe Spencer, 36, is being charged with injury to a child. He is currently out of jail on a bond.

According to Corrigan Police Chief Darrell Gibson, officers were called out to a disturbance in the 400 block of Eden on April 1.

According to Gibson, when officers arrived they found a woman leaning against a trailer.

"She had been shoved down," Gibson said. "However, she declined treatment."

Gibson said while officers were checking on the woman they discovered a 14-year-old girl that had visible marks on her neck and face.

"The girl told officers that Spencer grabbed her and threw her to the ground," Gibson said.

Spencer fled the scene before officers arrived. Gibson said when he returned a short time later the woman and 14-year-old girl called police and they returned to arrest him.
