Posted: Updated:
MONTEAGLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Tennessee police chief accidentally shot and killed a friend while on a hunting trip in Marion County.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says Monteagle Police Chief Virgil McNeese was turkey hunting Thursday in Richard City when his hunting partner was shot.

The man, identified as Stanley "Ransie" Whitman, later died at Erlanger Medical Center.

Wildlife agents will turn their information over to the district attorney to decide if charges will be filed.
