Woman dies after being severely burned in house fire

A 46-year-old woman who suffered severe burns in a house fire on Crawfordville Drive has died, according to the Richmond County Coroner's Office.

Karla Harter, 46, was pronounced dead Monday, according to the coroner's office. She was in the hospital for more than a week with third-degree burns to 85 percent of her body. 

Firefighters found Harter outside the home at 3625 Crawfordville Drive around 11 p.m. April 4. Neighbors helped put out the flames on her body.

Henry Jefferson III, 51, was found dead in the home after the fire was put out.

The investigation is ongoing.
