Huskies top Gators, advance to title game

STORRS, CT (WFSB) -

The Connecticut Huskies defeated the Florida Gators 63-53 to advance to the national championship game.

UConn forward DeAndre Daniels led the way for the Huskies with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Shabazz Napier had 12 points, six assists and four steals. Niels Giffey added 11 points, and Ryan Boatright had 13 points.

The Huskies went on a 21-6 run to take 25-22 lead at halftime during the Final Four game.

At one point the Huskies were down 16-4, but UConn went on an 11-0 run over a two-minute period. The Huskies would tie the game at 20-20 with a few minutes left in the half. 

To advance to the Final Four, the Huskies beat the Michigan State Spartans 60-54 on March 30. The Huskies defeated Iowa State 81-76 in the Sweet Sixteen on March 28. UConn defeated Villanova 77-65 in the round of 32 and St. Joe's in overtime 89-81 during the first round of the tournament.

UConn defeated Florida 65-64 in early December during the regular season in Storrs. However, in Saturday night's game the Huskies are a 7-point underdog. 

The Huskies will play the winner of the Wisconsin vs. Kentucky matchup on Monday at 8:10 p.m.

Eyewitness News will have the wrap-up of the game at 11 p.m.
