KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are investigating more than a dozen shooting incidents on metro roads and highways in the Kansas City area over the last few weeks.

Kansas City police told KCTV5 News on Tuesday that "some" of the shootings are connected.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Marisa Barnes says there have been detectives assigned to 13 cases. Out of those 13, six shootings were reported in the last five days.

Ten of the shootings have been in Kansas City. The most recent of which was Sunday night when the victim was driving at Three Trails Crossing where Interstate 435 connects to Interstate 470 when they thought they had blown a tire only to discover they'd been shot in the leg.

Three drivers have been hurt in those shootings, but luckily no one has been killed.

On March 19, there were two separate shootings. One was near Interstate 70 and Woods Chapel Road in Blue Springs. Just 10 minutes later, another shooting was reported near Interstate 470 and Colbern Road in Lee's Summit.

Police are investigating whether all the shootings are connected because the majority of them happened at night and around the Three Trails Crossing area.

"Right now those detectives are looking into it further to determine if there's any similarities whatsoever between them. Right now we have nothing to suggest they are related, but obviously that is a high number and there are things that suggest there are similar occurrences with each of those incidents," said Sgt. Tye Grant, a spokesman for the Kansas City, MO, Police Department.

One woman continues to think about when she was also a victim of a highway shooting, because she still has the bullet in her car door.

"I really thought it was a big rock that hit us," Jennie Baugher of Roeland Park, KS, said. "There wasn't another vehicle in sight and we were in the right lane and hit on the right side so to me it seems like that it was someone that was standing near the overpass or possibly down below."

She said it was probably the scariest thing that's ever happened to her.

"My husband saw that there was a hole in my car and saw that it was a bullet," Baugher said.

The bullet that sliced into her compact car remains in the door. She said had a friend in the passenger seat as she was driving over Highway 71 on 75th Street Friday night and she's just happy it didn't go all the way through the door.

"Shocked, just shocked," she said. "Thankful, just thankful that, you know, nobody was hurt."

Baugher's report is not one of the 13 highway shootings already reported. She tried to file a report, but said police acted like it was no big deal. But Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte is now making the highway shootings a high priority.

"They could be related. They could be totally random, but they definitely dictate for us to look further into them," Grant said.

Police have no suspects in the shootings. They are looking for any information that can help and ask that anyone with information call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
