DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) -

Diboll Police officers arrested a 36-year-old man after he allegedly attacked his common-law wife with a machete during a heated argument Sunday night.

Felix Miguel Angel Flores-Cano, of Diboll, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault of a family member with a deadly weapon. No bail has been set at this time.

According to Chief Ricky Conner of the Diboll Police Department, the alleged assault occurred in the 800 block of South First Street at approximately 9:15 p.m. Sunday.  When Diboll Police officers arrived on the scene, they found that the victim had suffered severe cuts to her face and hand.

Conner said the woman's injuries were "pretty serious" and said she had a bad cut near her ear and on her finger.

Flores-Cano was arrested at the scene and transported to the Angelina County Jail. Conner said the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department is investigating to see whether or not Flores-Cano is in the United States illegally.
