GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - A 47-year-old Groveton man accepted a plea bargain deal of 20 years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison on Tuesday for sexually assaulting a girl numerous times when she was between the ages of 8 and 12.
A spokeswoman for the Trinity County District Attorney's Office stated that as part of the deal, Dwight Arnold Wolf pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14.
Hempstead Police officers arrested Wolf in June 2013, and he was taken to the Waller County Jail.
In a previous East Texas News story, Erik Burse, a public information officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the Groveton Police Department and the Texas Rangers started investigating the case after the girl, who is now 14, "made an outcry" to her doctor on June 7, 2013 and said that Wolf had sexually assaulted her on multiple times when she was between the ages of 8 and 13.
Burse said it is not uncommon for small police departments like Groveton's to request assistance from the Texas Rangers in investigating a criminal case. He said smaller departments often seek help from the Texas Rangers if they don't have the manpower or equipment to process and/or analyze evidence in a criminal case.
After the two agencies investigated the girl's allegations, an arrest warrant was issued out of Trinity County, and Hempstead Police officers picked Wolf up at his residence.
