NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjack basketball coach Brad Underwood was moved to an emotional pause as he reflected on the past season when he spoke at the Nacogdoches Rotary Club meeting Tuesday.

Applause and standing ovations follow Underwood everywhere he goes these days.

A national coach of the year, a 32 and 3 overall record, a Southland Conference win, and advancement to the NCAA Tournament adds up to a pretty remarkable season.

"It truly was a history making year, and I told our team that," Underwood said.

Underwood said through it all, there are two memories that stick out for him.

The first is the You Tube videos of SFA Lumberjack basketball watch parties.

"It was so exciting for me to see how this community, how this university, how East Texas rallied around this team," Underwood said.

The second was not the monumental win over VCU in the NCAA tournament; it was all over. There was a spontaneous standing ovation for the team that made it happen.

"And to see 12,900 people standup … I get emotional. It's pretty special," Underwood said. "And not all of them are our fans. UCLA, Gonzaga, Arizona. That's pretty cool. And now, we get to do it next year, right"

Another accomplishment during the last season for the SFA basketball team is the national recognition. Underwood emphasized how important it is for a university to see its brand and logo on national television network.

Well, the look is there. And it's just like the fans want to see it. You can now see the traditional spirit logo on billboards, mall signage, Internet banner ads, Pandora music app, and on university Web sites and social media accounts.  A new logo was tossed out of the game following an outpour of opposition.
