Lufkin Police officers arrested a 24-year-old Lufkin man after he allegedly used a cellphone camera to snap pictures of a woman and her 10-year-old daughter while they were in a dressing room stall at Academy Sports & Outdoors Saturday evening.

Jesus Manuel Izquierdo, 24, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of improper photo or visual recording and a hold from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department. His bail has been set at $10,000.

According to Sgt. David Casper, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, the woman and her 10-year-old daughter were in the dressing room stall when they noticed someone taking pictures with a cellphone.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said that she and her daughter had been trying on swimsuits when the incident occurred. She said her daughter asked, "Mom, what was that? That camera?"

"I was dressed and I promptly unlocked the door and was able to grab a youngish guy and yelled for an employee to call the cops," the woman said. "Other people in the store heard me say what he had done, and they all enclosed him in a circle."

The woman said a man and his wife and a Stephen F. Austin State University student all surrounded Izquierdo. After the dressing room employee called, 911, she helped detain the suspect as well, the woman said.

The woman said Izquierdo obviously wanted to run, but there were too many people there. She also said that the store's manager didn't say anything to her while they were waiting on LPD officers to arrive.

Casper said Izquierdo gave the LPD officers permission to check his phone. When they did, they located pictures of the woman and the child in the dressing room.

The woman said even though she feels angry and violated, she wanted to share what had happened, so people will know to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

"If [the daughter] hadn't seen the camera, I would have never turned around, and who knows where those pictures would have ended up," the woman said.
