Candle ceremony held in Quitman for Child Abuse Awareness Month

Posted: Updated:
QUITMAN, TX (KLTV) - Several talented young people were the highlight of an event in Wood County on Tuesday night, focusing on Child Abuse Awareness Month.

More than 200 people gathered at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman, to watch acts including child singers, a young fiddler, a martial arts group, and even an Elvis Presley impersonator.

The event was held to educate people about warning signs that might indicate that a child is abused, and also to honor and remember the children who are victimized every day in Wood County, and all across East Texas. Candles were lit at the end of the ceremony for those victims.

Two Wood County victims raised money for the event by selling t-shirts, and presented a check for one thousand dollars to the Wood County Child Welfare Board.

KLTV 7's Taylor Hemness served as emcee for Tuesday night's event.
