About 75 students from Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts got to take the center stage Tuesday night at theatre in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.
The rising stars put on several performances for family, friends, and teachers. The event was all a part of the first annual fine arts gala. This gala was a result of a partnership between NISD and SFA which was created last fall. The goal was to give student teachers real hands on experience and expose young performers to the arts. Tuesday's event was organized by the student's teacher program at SFA. Students from kindergarten all the way to fifth grade took the stage.
"I dance the 5th grade radioactive dance and I was also playing the bells," said Fidel Juarez, student performer.
"I sang in choir and I sang shooting star and thankful," said Dora Garcia, student performer.
"I felt nervous but I was excited to be here and perform," said Jeremiah Cotton, student performer.
Organizers said that Tuesday event was a success.
