When the Angelina Girls All-Stars take the court for the annual Pineywoods Showdown, they do so with added motivation after a recent trip to the Boys & Girls Club of Diboll.

"They see what they are giving back to as well so my hope is it means more to them after being here today," coach Laura Jones said.

"I want to win for them instead of me," Zavalla senior Caitlyn Lambert said. "When you are shooting a shot or making a shot, it's not just for you but for them too."

The Boys and Girls club of Deep East Texas serves over 1,000 kids.  The club Offers after school and summer programs with the hope of bringing out the full potential in each of them.

After the camp, Coach Jones said it is hard to see who benefited the most.

"It's just fun watching them interact," Jones said. "I don't know who was more excited, the high school kids or the young kids."

"They're amazing" Lufkin senior Tiara Robinson said. "They just love the sport like I do. It makes it more fun."

"I like seeing them smile when they do something right or they're happy when they win a competition," Central senior Shelby Finch said.

Through summer leagues, many of these all stars have actually played on the Diboll court and hope they are inspiring future squads.

"They're learning life skills, like giving back to those who tolerated you as a kid and saw you grow and mature," Diboll Director Eric Hernandez said.

"Hopefully a lot of these kids will be playing [in the showdown] in five, six or seven years," Jones said.

Thursday night, the girls hope to do more then inspire and win money for the group.

The sixth annual Pineywoods Showdown between the all-stars of Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties start at 6 p.m. at Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches. The boys game will follow the girls game. Tickets are $5. Children five years-old and under are free.

All the proceeds will go to charity.

The Angelina girls are playing for the Boys & Girls Club. The Angelina boys are playing for Harold's House. The Nacogdoches girls are playing for Godtel. The Nacogdoches boys are playing for Glory Gang.
