TxDOT delays opening of connector Bridge on Highway 59

Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Weather delays have pushed the opening of the northbound direct connector bridge to early May as work on the U.S. 59 North Interchange Project in Lufkin progresses.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the contractor, Webber Construction, LLC, of Houston, is currently placing top soil and permanent seeding along the slopes near the Moffett Road Overpass. Next week's work includes pouring the concrete paving on the north end of the northbound connector as well as completing the striping in preparation for the traffic switch in May.

Work is expected to be completed in late fall 2015, weather permitting. As construction progresses, TxDOT encourages motorists to plan ahead allowing extra time or using alternate routes to reach their destinations. Caution is advised when traveling through this and all work zones. Motorists are also reminded to obey all traffic control devices and to remember that traffic fines double when workers are present.
