ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested a 27-year-old Dayton man for allegedly driving drunk with two children under the age of 15 in the car after he drove his 1996 Chevrolet off of Mud Creek Road and crashed into a pine tree Saturday night.

Charles Jason Beitz is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 in the car. His bail has been set at $10,000.

According to a press release, DPS troopers from the Lufkin office responded to the scene of a one-vehicle accident on Mud Creek Road just off of State Highway 63 at approximately 7:15 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived on the scene, they learned that a 1996 Chevrolet driven by Beitz had driven off the road and struck a pine tree.

Beitz wasn't injured in the crash, and according to the press release, he admitted to drinking before the accident occurred. Beitz did poorly on several field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for DWI with a child. At the Angelina County Jail, Beitz submitted to a breath test, and his blood alcohol was above .08, the press release stated.

At the time of the accident, Beitz' wife and two sons, ages 12 and 7, were in the car with him. No one was injured in the crash, and the two boys were released into the custody of their mother.
