LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The victim of an early Monday shooting in Longview is now behind bars after fleeing police.

The Longview Police Department said 29-year-old William Louis Walton of Longview was arrested on charges of evading arrest and failure to identify as a fugitive. Walton will also be charged for three outstanding traffic warrants, a warrant for deadly conduct/discharging firearm and an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At 5:06 a.m. Wednesday, police were dispatched to gunshots heard in the 1700 block of Hutchings Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found Walton wounded in the backyard of a residence. When police approached him, he ran, jumping several fences in an attempt to evade officers. He was taken into custody a short time later.

When Walton was arrested, he refused to cooperate and lied to police about his real name. He was taken to Longview Regional Medical Center where he was correctly identified.

Walton has been released from the hospital and remains in the Gregg County Jail. His bond has not been set.

Police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting due to Walton's refusal to cooperate.

Walton has previously been arrested in Gregg County for theft, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
