It was an exciting time of celebration on the Lufkin High School campus, as one of their own has signed his letter of intent to play college baseball.
Cort McPherson has decided he will take his talents to Alvin Community College coming this fall.
His coaches, family and friends were all gathered together to celebrate McPherson's signing day.
McPherson says he feels more than ready to live out his dream of playing college baseball.
"I started playing baseball when I was 4 years old and all the hard work, and dedication got me to where I am. I'm happy to be where I'm at right now," said McPherson. "I'm pretty sure everybody has wanted to go to college, go to the next level, play with the bigger people, and better people. That's their dream I'm pretty sure for anybody who's ever played baseball."
His coach at the high school, Jason Stanley, believes Alvin Community College will be a great stepping stone for McPherson to get to a higher level of baseball.
"Alvin has been around for a long time and they've put many people in Division 1 baseball," said Stanley. "If he goes there, pays his dues, and learns from those good coaches, he can definitely go to the next level."
