LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A fire damaged a home on Abney Street early Tuesday morning after the home's residents woke up and discovered that a couch on their front porch was on fire. No one was injured in the blaze.

According to Lufkin City Fire Marshal Steve McCool, the fire occurred between 12:36 and 2:19 a.m. Tuesday at a house in the 300 block of Abney Street. The home is still standing.

McCool said the person staying in the bedroom near the front porch woke up to the smell of smoke and discovered that a couch that had been sitting on the porch was on fire. The home's occupants attempted to douse the fire with water, but they were unsuccessful.

The occupants threw the couch into their yard, but it landed right next to the porch and caught the house on fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, McCool said. He said they are still doing interviews.
