TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A master plan for renovations to the Tyler Rose Garden were presented to the Tyler City Council by MHS Planning and Design LLC Wednesday morning.

The proposal included creating social areas, complying with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), adding restroom facilities within the garden, adding areas for children, adding a cafe, and converting queens court into an amphitheater for concerts.

The changes are in effort to increase visitation to the garden year-round, not just rose season.

Phase one of the plan would be to improve ADA challenges. The building was constructed prior to ADA, so many of the walkways are currently out of code. Phase one of the budget, to reshape queen court, add patios along the court, and rebuild sidewalks for ADA compliance, would total $575,000.

This would just be one of nine possible phases, with a total budget of $2.9 million.

The council approved the plan unanimously on Wednesday morning, with the next step to be finding funding sources.
