LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - On Thursday, country singer and East Texas native Neal McCoy confirmed with KLTV that he will be the headliner for the 2014 Fourth of July festival.

The City of Longview is expected to meet on Thursday to announce that McCoy is the official headliner.

"We're just excited to be here, glad we could figure out a way to get this done," said McCoy.

"What better person to help us celebrate the Fourth of July than a true patriot," added Longview mayor Jay Dean.

Holly Tucker, a season six top six competitor on "The Voice", is also scheduled to perform at the festival.

Classic rocker Ted Nugent was scheduled to perform at the festival, but the city made the decision to cancel his performance. City staff had hired a promoter who was in talks with a booker for the controversial rocker. Amid the controversy surrounding Nugent's appearance with Texas gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott, organizers decided to cancel the singer's appearance.

When asked about payment to the rocker in order to cancel, Longview Public Information Officer Shawn Hara said Nugent was, "not the right feel for this kind of community event."

A group called Longview Patriots ended up raising the $16,250 to cover the agreement made between Nugent's booking agent and the city.

The annual "4th of July Fireworks and Freedom Celebration" is scheduled for Friday, July 4. The festival starts at 10 a.m. and lasts throughout the day. The musical performances are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors at the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center will open at 5:30 p.m.
