MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

A Madisonville woman is under arrest for wanton endangerment.

Police went to the home of Sherry Carter on Wednesday to check on the welfare of two children.

They say when they arrived at the house on Spring Street, a woman told them Carter had abandoned her children.

She said Carter had a warrant for her arrest and left the house on Monday.

There was no food, water or a working toilet in the home.

Police say Carter turned the stove on and left the door open for heat for the children.  They also hadn't flushed the toilet in a week.

Officials say a source provided information that led to Carter's arrest.

The 28-year-old is in the Hopkins County jail.
