Five displaced after Richmond apartment fire

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Five people have been displaced following an early morning apartment fire in Richmond.

The flames broke out around 2:30 a.m. Friday at the Newman Village Apartments in the 4000 block of Old Brook Road. The complex is located near Charmberlayne Ave. and Laburnum Ave. One man was inside asleep at the time, and managed to escape due to the smoke.

No one was hurt. The fire originated from the apartment's kitchen. The cause is under investigation.
